Big Blue Open Houses offer glimpse into life as a UK Wildcat
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 15, 2023) — Know someone interested in touring the University of Kentucky, learning about the admissions process and getting introduced to the many resources and services available on campus?
If so, we're rolling out the big blue carpet and inviting you to experience what being a Wildcat is all about.
This fall, UK will host six Big Blue Open Houses (BBOHs) — giving prospective students and guests an opportunity to explore our expansive campus, located in the heart of Lexington.
At UK, we've carefully curated all you need to be successful — opportunities, people, resources and spaces — and our Big Blue Open House events are designed for exploration.
At BBOH events, you will interact one-on-one with current students, faculty and staff and learn about the wide variety of academic possibilities available at UK. Attendees can also explore what high-impact learning experiences and student organizations and activities they can pursue to enhance their college career and become future leaders.
“There is so much to highlight about our institution — from programs serving students with financial well-being and literacy to learning about the 200+ academic majors offered at the undergraduate level,” Tony Colella, assistant vice president of Enrollment Management, said. “Our open house events continue to draw an increasing population of prospective students and their families. This tells us, these events have a history of being extremely impactful in encouraging prospective students to pursue an academic journey at the University of Kentucky. It is our privilege to host these special visitors to the Big Blue Nation.”
The schedule is as follows:
- Saturday, Sept. 16
- Friday, Sept. 29
- Friday, Oct. 6
- Friday, Nov. 3
- Friday, Nov. 17
- Monday, Nov. 20
After selecting a date, families can create a personalized schedule for the BBOH sessions. Students can then dedicate their time to learning about specific colleges or campus resources.
For UK faculty and staff who may have a future Wildcat, the enrollment team will also host a very special “Connect a Cat” information session on Nov. 3. More information can be found here.
In addition to the BBOH opportunities, Enrollment Management is hosting UK Previews. These events allow the university to bring the Big Blue Nation to communities across the country — ensuring accessibility for all students. You can register for a UK Preview here.

As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It's all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University forKentucky.
